The MFMA is a non profit organisation whose membership is open to seafood retailers, wholesalers, distributors, processors, co-operatives, mobile vendors and any other organisation considered by the committee to have an interest in the selling of seafood.

The MFMA is administered by a committee of 11 financial members elected annually by popular vote, overseen by the State Electoral Commission.

The MFMA office is run by our Executive Officer, Office Manager, and Administrative Assistant.

Our Objective

The MFMA is actively involved in the negotiating for better conditions for all merchants and for ongoing improvements in the system of selling seafood. We liaise with State and Federal Government, media, Commercial Fishers, Sydney Fish Market Pty Limited etc on behalf of our member's best interests.

The NSW and Australian Seafood industry is currently undergoing many changes - industry deregulation, food safety, e-commerce and supermarkets rapid movement into fresh fish, just to name a few. The MFMA believes it is important that these industry changes are carefully monitored and that a mechanism exists to ensure proper consultation and input. We believe that in our role as industry "Watch Dog", we are able to monitor the 'big picture' of events that may directly or indirectly affect members' business.

A regular MFMA Bulletin is mailed monthly to members and associate members, covering topics that are important to the way that our members run their own businesses. The seafood industry must ensure that seafood sales do not suffer as a result of increased emphasis on marketing from other sectors of the meat industry. To this end the MFMA is always increasing the amount and quality of promotional material available to member's businesses. All promotional material, including recipe cards, brochures, posters, price tags, and food stuffs to compliment seafood are available at discounted prices to members and associate members only.
